Building the Path to a Zero-Emission Tokyo
Building-Led Pathways to Decarbonized Cities Corporate Action and Global Standards as Urban Strategy
Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting a multifaceted decarbonization initiative, including for buildings and real estate, with the goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050. While Japan is making progress in pioneering initiatives such as setting interim targets for 2030, promoting renewable energy and energy-saving measures, and supporting the low-carbonization of buildings, tracking progress using international evaluation standards and reflecting this in decision-making will be key to determining the quality of the city in the future.
In response to these trends, the Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor (CRREM), which tracks CO₂ emissions during building operations through a science-based decarbonization pathway, is rapidly spreading among investors, financial institutions, and the real estate market globally. Decarbonization is no longer just a “philosophy,” but is beginning to become a real rule that drives decision-making.
Starting from CRREM, this forum will connect Tokyo’s zero-emissions strategy, corporate and financial decision-making, and the technologies that support it into a single story, charting a realistic path to moving urban decarbonization from “concept” to “implementation.”
